Charlie St. Cloud = B/B-

Zac Efron is a name that will always be associated with the tween phenomenon/abomination known as High School Musical, and while I hated that whole franchise with a burning passion there was always something about Zac that made me curious. A little while after HSM ended for good, he stared in a movie called 17 Again which I decided to check out on DVD and actually turned out to be surprisingly good, which only further fueled my curiousity as it if Zac could end up being a credible actor one day. So recently his movie Charlie St. Cloud came out in theaters and I decided to go see it with my girlfriend to see once and for all if this kid was the real deal or not and after watching it I'm definitely sold on him as an up and coming actor. At first glance Charlie St. Cloud finds Zac Efron in a familiar place, as a pretty face with a bright future who is envied by few and loved by many, none moreso than his little brother Sam, with whom he makes a certain pact that plays a huge part in the movie. The two are inseparable and share a bond that is seemingly unbreakable. That bond is truly put to the test when one night while Charlie is driving his little brother to a friends house they are hit by a drunk driver and then by a truck. Charlie flatlines but is revived by one of the paramedics in the back of an ambulance only to look over and see his brother Sam dead on the stretcher next to him. At the funeral as Sam's casket is being lowered Charlie is asked to throw in Sam's favorite baseball glove and ball but refuses to do this and runs to the place where he and Sam first made their pact. Broken and confused he falls to his knees only to look up and see Sam standing there waiting for him to honor their pact. 5 years passes and see an older Charlie working at a graveyard (most likely to stay close to his brother's spirit) making sure that the headstones stay clean. Charlie while more mature is also a little darker and more brooding now as it is quite obvious that he hasn't gotten over the guilt he feels about his brother's death. From this moment on the movie takes on a more supernatural tone with Charlie encountering several other spirits of the deceased while he tries to stay loyal to his little brother. But their bond slowly becomes fractured when a girl from Charlie's old high school re-emerges. I won't go any deeper into the story because it'd completely ruin some things. Charlie St. Cloud is a film that is a drama through and through but the supernatual elements confuse the story sometimes and leave several plot holes. Also there are times that it tries a little too hard to tug on your heart strings and ends up coming off as cheesy. But aside from those few gripes I honestly enjoyed this film, mostly because of the strong performance from Zac Efron. He shows a lot of growth of maturity in this role while still maintaining his awkward charm and the looks that made him a favorite amongst females. He actually kind of reminded me of James Dean in this role as he gave off a sort of mysterious and rebellious vibe in the film. He also has great onscreen chemistry with the female lead and his little brother. All in all I would recommend this movie to at least be viewed when it comes out on DVD if only just to witness Zac Efron's performance that will surely launch his career as a serious actor. I think this the most creative thing that I've seen in a long time. Musicians always talk about how they hope to create art with their music videos but Kanye West is the only artist in the history of music that I've seen actually do it. This isn't a music video, this is a moving painting portraying the message of the song Power. I know there are going to be Illuminati claims out the ass because of this but those people are missing the message completely. This clip is showing us the humbling of a fallen icon. Females...

I'm in an interesting position in my life where females seem to be appearing from all over the place (no doubt because I'm in a relationship) and out of all these females I have the 3 main ones who I'm most focused on. It almost feels like I'm in some sort of romantic comedy or something lol.

First there's the obvious one, My girlfriend: Katlyn. Now as I've stated in several posts I am completely happy with my relationship and I love my girl. I have yet to be this genuinely happy with someone and completely feel like myself around someone. Unfortunately she's leaving for college in August and the days seem to be flying by faster. Now of course I'm going to keep my relationship going because I'm not the summer fling kind of person and neither is she so I'm not worried about that I'm just a little worried about the fact that once we're apart that's when we'll be approached and tested the most. Especially female number 2...

#2, My ex/the heartbreaker: Stephanie. You guys know how the story goes, your ex breaks up with you and your heartbroken. You make several attempts to try and change things so that you guys can get back together but they're just not having it because they've "moved on". Time goes by, you get stronger and eventually find something new. All of a sudden guess who shows up ironically realizing that they've fucked up and what to make things right? This shit is borderline infuriating because of the fact that they didn't want you when you wanted them but once you're happy you become something worth seeking again. It's almost like a slap in the face. I'd be lying though if I said that there wasn't a small part of me that enjoys the fact that she popped back up again because that little evil side of me thinks it's hilarious. Lately she's been blowing up my phone (to the disdain of my girlfriend) inviting me all over creation in what I can only guess is an attempt to get my attention back on her. If this keeps up then I'm gonna have no choice but to cut her off from my life completely because she had her chance and I'm not going to leave someone who's genuinely interested in me for someone who doesn't know what the hell she wants...Then again I remember there was a time when I was like that with female number 3...

#3, the one who got away: Robyn. Several people have one of these in their life. You know the one that you grew up with and flirted with here and there but never really paid much attention to them until it was too late. Well Robyn is my one who got away. The who I sometimes ask "what if?" about to myself. I met her about 10 years ago at my church and we pretty much grew up together. She apparently liked me from the moment she met me but I was too young and oblivious to notice or care. So we danced around each other for years and everyone we knew was always trying to get us together but something always would happen that prevented that and we eventually just decided that it'd be better if we just stuck to being friends. But regardless of that whenever we are around each other you can tell that we've had a long history together and I always find myself pondering "what if things had worked out?". Oh well, I guess somethings are meant to be unknown.

With these 3 already consuming my mental and emotional space, a lot of my female friends (I have a lot of attractive female friends) have been flirting with my lately and at this rate I'm contemplating staying in my house for the remainder of the summer lol. Damn this season and it's ways of making everyone seem desirable -_-. Sorry if this didn't really make a whole lot of sense, I just needed to get that out of my system. Only weeks after Chris' tearjerkingly emotional MJ Tribute at the BET Awards, Chris Brown continues to cement his comeback with what is looking to be his best video yet. From what I saw in the this trailer we see Chris doing some of his signature dancing while at the same time throwing in some acting and even some nice fight choreography. In terms of cinematography this may be Breezy's Thriller if it turns out to be as epic as it looks. The song accompanying the video is actually really well done as well. Whether or not it's a single from an upcoming project or just something that Chris wanted to do has yet to be seen but all I know is that whatever the case, Chris is coming back strong. Forget bathrobes, me and my girl got sneakers for that lol.

Me and my girl are doing really good just in case anyone was wondering lol. 3 months in a I'm really beginning to love this girl legitimately, now for some of you that may be way to early but I firmly believe that when it comes to love you shouldn't really give yourself a time limit because then it becomes less genuine. In the past I've dated girls who I was already friends with because I felt that there was a kind of security in already knowing the person I was with but that never really ended well so the girl I'm with now was literally someone I met at a party and it's so refreshing. One thing that really excites me about the relationship I'm in is the fact that I honestly feel like we're both actually growing with each other. We're finding out new things about each other everyday, finding out each other's pet peeves, how one's strengths can help the other's flaws, so on and so forth. I don't mean to bore you guys with all this relationship talk, it's just been a long time that I've been this legitimately excited about getting somewhere with a girl. I think I'm gonna start doing these to fill in blank time between posts since I'm always listening to music. I heard this song years ago on So You Think You Can Dance and been in love with it ever since. The instrumental is dark and spacey but it's the lyrics that really make the song great. Many people take it as a love song but it's actually about wondering if God is really out there which is a topic that you seldom hear in music, let alone pop. Definitely do yourself a favor and give this song a listen. I hope everyone's doin well and if you're not then if you're not then keep your head up because great things are right around the corner. So for those of you that've been following my blog for a long time, you may have remembered when I did a post promoting the mixtape of my good friend and up and coming DMV emcee Hassani Kwess. Well he recently finished his newest mixtape TRON and just dropped his first video ever for the track Midnight Bravado. Now while I'm a huge fan of epic videos because of my love of film, I'm a sucker for low-fi and simple videos like these. Filmed in Northeast DC, it features Hassani and another close friend of mine/up and coming producer Zack aka Zig-Zag loitering around the neighborhood on a mellow day. The song and video are both definite throwbacks to 90's hip-hop and you can't help but get swept up in the positive vibes. Having been born and raised in the DMV area I was really proud watching this video and I really hope that you all enjoy the video and pick up Hassani Kwess' mixtape when it drops in support of good music. BET Awards 2010

So i don't think I need to speak on how whack the 2010 TOMFOOLERY...I mean BET Awards were but I will post the performances that I thought were pretty dope.

Now even though I wasn't exactly that impressed by this performance, just for the simple fact that this is the first time we've seen Kanye in 6 months I had to post this. I think I would've liked it more if he wasn't wearing that obnoxious chain -_- but oh well, Kanye's back and I can't wait for what he has in store for us in 2010.

This was the first performance of the night that I truly enjoyed and you could tell that T.I. and everyone else was enjoyin it too (just look at Willow Smith jammin lol). T.I. looked great on stage and showed no signs of rust in the performance. There were a lot of returns that night now that I think of it.

I was just expecting Drake to perform Over and be done with it so when I saw him open with Fireworks I was automatically glued to the TV screen. Of course he did end up going into Over which sounds great live and then brought out Jeezy to perform a remix of Lose My Mind (thank GOD Plies didn't get on stage -_-). Drake continues to grow as a performer and it was dope to see him very confident on that stage. Oh and people need to stop with the Illuminati stuff jeez -_-.

I was gonna post Trey Songz performance but it wasn't on youtube in good quality. Trey continues to solidify his spot as the new king of R&B and definitely outdid Usher's somewhat spastic performance. He kept it low key and intimate performing Yo Side of The Bed (one of my favorite songs by him) and then went into Purple Rain by Prince. Great performance overall

And the best performance of the night goes to Chris Brown who did an amazing tribute to the late great Michael Jackson that will definitely be talked about throughout the week, most likely because during Man in the Mirror he broke down on stage and cried. Now some people out there thought that it was all a publicity stunt to gain sympathy but I really feel like it was genuine. Anyone who's followed his career knows that MJ was his biggest idol/influence and Chris was supposed to do a tribute for him a while ago but because of the backlash he received from the Rihanna incident he was denied that oppuriunity which I can only imagine destroyed him. After all the bad press, emotional battles and loss that he'd went through in the past year I can only imagine that it all came to ahead during his tribute to his hero. It definitely tugged on my heart strings and I can only hope that Chris only continues to venture upward out of this hole that his career was in.

Besides these the rest of the Award show was just a bunch of random nigga shit to me but if you guys have different view or had performances that you think I should've posted you know what to do. Till next time, Rock on from Krypton!

The Return of the Random Bulk Post

Wass good people? It's been a while since I've just done a post chronicling a bunch of random things that have been on my mind lately and I think it's long overdue so here goes nothing.

-So after months and months of scouring the Earth to find a job I finally struck gold. I'm working with one of my best friends cleaning up office buildings after everyone leaves (If you've seen ATL it's pretty much what the main characters do). While it's not the most lucrative job it's a good job to keep me stable until I find something better. It feels good to not have to stress about being dead broke anymore =D

-I'm currently in the rebuilding stage of my life where I'm getting more used to these newfound responsibilities. I still have a lot of growing and learning to do but I finally feel like I'm heading in the right direction.

-I have a lot of things that I plan to get or change in the coming months so that I can TRULY start on this whole film thing starting with getting a new camera and a MAC. Don't be surprised if you see more of me in the foreseeable future.

-I'm currently in the best physical shape that I've ever been in and that's all thanks to working out practically everyday at home lol. Who needs a gym when you can do so much at home?

-The whole Nikki Minaj/Lil Kim fued thing is retarded to me. Why can't older rappers just leave the newcomers alone? I don't ever remember Nikki outwardly dissing Kim in any of her songs, so if you ask me it seems like Kim's trying to spark something up to make herself relevant again because she's fallen off in a BIG way smh.

-Why are interracial relationships so frowned upon? it's 2010 people grow the fuck up. It gets a little annoying when I hear some close-minded individuals talking about how I'm "turning on our kind" because I date a white girl. I'm not dating her because of the color of her skin, I date her because she's an amazing person. If she was black, yellow, tan, purple or whatever then i'd STILL date her so step the fuck off. I swear people need to grow up. I think people should be grateful that we even live in a day and age where we can make that choice.

-It's kind of funny how a lot of people have turned on Drake as of late. He's like the new person to hate on for some odd reason. I remember like last year everyone loved this dude and now all of a sudden he's "not living up to the hype". No he's not the greatest rapper alive (but then again who really is?) but he sure as hell is talented and one of the hottest artists in the game right now. I'll agree that he is a little oversaturated but then again is it his fault that everyone wants him on their song? No it's not. Music fans can be real fickle sometimes smdh.

-While we're on the topic of Drake, it's good to see that critics are liking his debut album alot. I'm happy for the guy and he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who'll let all this go to his head. I wish him nothing but the best in his future.

-If you haven't seen The A-Team yet then go see it because it's the most fun movie that's dropped this summer so far. Even more so than Iron Man 2. It takes everything that made the original show great, fleshes it out a little, puts it on the big screen and breaths new life into it. It's fast paced so you don't find yourself getting bored, The action sequences are top notch and the actors mesh together really well. While the critics might not have liked it much, everyone that I know enjoyed it alot. I've already seen it twice lol.

-Eminem's new album is his best work since The Eminem Show. I know I gave Relapse a positive review a while back, as I listen to the album more I began to realize that there was a lot of filler in there and that after awhile it lost a lot of it's appeal. You can tell that Em was still a little off during that period of time. On Recovery though we see Em more focused, mature and hungry than I think he's ever been. While you'll still hear some of the signature "shock value" lines that we've all grown accustomed to from Em, this album is a lot brighter than his past albums with songs like Not Afraid and Won't Back Down. Another thing that sets it apart from his other albums is the fact that he reached out to other producers for the beats on this album which he has never done. He's got beats from DJ Khalil ("Fear" by Drake), Alex Da Kid ("Airplanes pts 1 & 2" by B.o.B.), Just Blaze, Havoc from Mobb Deep as well as a couple of unknowns. I think because of this it allowed him to really focus on lyrically MURDERING every beat on the album and he really does. Also we all know that Em's albums are never really feature heavy but the few features that he does have on the album are definitely different than what you'd expect. The most eye catching of these are Pink and Rihanna who both are awesome on the songs that they're on. While I think some Eminem fans will initially be disappointed in this album because it doesn't feature any crazy accents or songs about his fucked up childhood, I personally view this as a welcome change and it goes to show you that he doesn't need drugs to be a MONSTER on the mic. Go pick up Recovery when it drops on June 22nd.

-I love how the world seems to be sitting back on Kanye's dick again after Power dropped =D

-Lupe really needs to drop a single sometime soon because the buzz for his album has died down immensely with all the delays and lack of material. He's really being criminally misused by his record label.

-I think I can speak for everyone when I say, that this weather is fuckin ridiculous. It hasn't been this humid in a long time and it's not even officially summer yet! If it's like this now, I'm scared to see what I'll be like in July >.<.

-Has anyone seen Prince of Persia? I've been trying to see it but everytime I try to go something derails my plans. I've heard mixed things about it so lemme know what you thought if you saw it.

-Chances are since I'm working now I'll be posting more movie reviews once I see them so be on the look out for that -

Too many people nowadays live their lives devoid of passion and ambition and it saddens me. I think that when people start thinking "realistically" in everything they do then the less happy they are with their lives. I'm not saying that thinking that way is necessarily bad, but when you let hold you back from pursuing your dreams then I think you're missing out greatly on the amazing things that life has to offer.

-I recently found out that my ex (aka my first love/heartbreak) has been redeveloping feelings for me as of late. Why do females do that shit? When I'm available I get taken for granted but once someone else shows me some appreciation I'm all of a sudden a hot commodity? fuck outta here with all that.

-I've been feeling real quotable lately and one of my favorite quotes that I made up is "Love is like a rose covered in thorns. you can either just grab it and massacre your hands or you can take your time picking off the thorns so you can hold that rose safely. how you get to love determines the end result"

-Twilight fans may be the most annoying people on the planet -_-

-I know I'm gonna get judged for this but I think Justin Bieber is a cool little dude. No this doesn't mean I'll go out and by his albums (Though me and my girl do like his song "U Smile"), But I do think he's a talented kid and if he keep on growing he could end up a dope artist. Only time will tell.

-I've been listening to the Blueprint 3 alot lately especially So Ambitious. That's like my theme song. "The motivation for me, is them telling what I cannot be, Oh well!" <--- Me in a nutshell.

Revolution of Evolution

"Where will you be for the Revolution?"

New Cudi surfaced yesterday and it serves as just another part of what I think is G.O.O.D. Music's hostile takeover of the second half of 2010. Cudi's been performing this song live pretty frequently lately so I knew it was only a matter of time because we heard it in CDQ. On REVOFEV (which is an abbrev. for Revolution of Evolution) we hear our "big brother" Cudi preparing for "the Revolution" and rallying the listeners to follow him. The Revolution he speaks of can be taking in many different ways but I'm guessing he's talking about the current evolution in the music industry. This song showcases Cudi's affinity for 70s psychedelic rock and new age because the beat on this song reminds me of something The Beatles would've put out during their Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Band days. Cudi doesn't rap at all on this song (which apparently had irked a few people) and instead brings his drowsily sings through this call to action for evolution in music. The structure of the song and the lyrics are kept simple and this works perfectly because I believe it was made to be an anthem and it will quickly get stuck into your head. It's uplifting, militant, melodic, spacy, epic, ridiculously catchy and all Cudi. Do yourself a favor and REVOFEV. You already know what to do after you hear the song, hit up them comments! So I've been slackin on the posts lately because I've been job searching like a mad man as of late. I actually wasn't gonna post tonight but I came across this trailer that for some reason really struck a cord with me so I thought I'd share it with yall. Don't know what it's about or when it's coming out but for some reason I'm very intrigued. Plus it stars Stephen Dorff who stars in one my favorite movies of all time Dueces Wild and hasn't been in a movie for a while so I'd love to see what he'll be doing with this film. Not Afraid

"I'm not afraid to take a stand..."

The video for "Not Afraid" off of Eminem's Recovery album dropped earlier this morning and it's quit possibly the most well produced, impactful and definitely the most optimistic video that he's ever released. You can definitely tell that Eminem is in a new refreshed frame of mind of this album and this video is a perfect indication of his newfound focus and maturity. The video takes place in two different locations, one is in a city and the other is in a dark and dreary basement very reminiscent to some of his older videos. Early on in the city scenes after contemplating what looks like a suicide attempt we see a stoic and stonefaced Em walking around aimlessly almost completely detached from his surroundings until he catches a glimpse of himself in the window of a parked car and realizes that his reflection is distorted. From this moment on he begins to realize that something is very wrong and soon he is surrounded by mirrors casting the same distorted reflection back at him causing him to panic and jump through one of the mirrors. Meanwhile in the basement scenes we see Em (who looks a lot younger than he does in the city scenes for some reason) acting very similar to the way he used to in his darker videos. He shows off his angrier and more passionate side in these scenes as we see him throwing things all over the room until he throws a chair at the stone wall and it cracks revealing a small glimmer of light. At this moment he begins to punch through the wall revealing more light and walks into it. Back at the city, Em gets up and walks to what seems to be the edge of reality and hesitantly jumps off the ledge. Then the video turns into that scene from Matrix Revolutions and Em starts flying around the city Neo style. As he's flying we also see Em shrouded in light after getting out of the dark basement rapping the last verse of the song. At the very end of the video we see Em fly back up to the tall building that he was standing on in the very beginning of the video and looks out over the city. What makes this video so impactful compare to alot of his other videos is the fact that I think this is the first time we're TRULY seen a growth in Eminem. He's had mature videos in the past but this is the first time that I've seen such an optimistic and hopeful side of his music, and it sends out a powerful message to the listeners. While I'm sure that we'll still have some of the signature shock value songs on Em's new album, I'm really looking forward to hearing the material that he puts on this album which is sure to be a classic. So today Drake's album leaked to the net and the way I do things with albums is unless your name is Kanye West, Jay-Z, Eminem or Lupe Fiasco, I listen to the leak and that determines whether or not I'm gonna pick up your album once it drops in stores because money just ain't the same as it used to be. Now unless you've been living under a rock in the most remote location in the world you know who Drake is and if you know who Drake is then you know how much hype there is surrounded damn near everything the guy does. Ever since So Far Gone dropped Drake became a phenom literally overnight and he hasn't stopped riding that wave of impossible hype ever since. Now this is both a very good and a bad thing because while he's doing very well for himself, one wrong step and it could all be over. Because of this Thank Me Later is either going to catapult his career to a level even higher than it already is at or it'll cause to nose dive directly into the ground. With all eyes on Mr Aubrey Drake Graham is he able to deliver or was his overwhelming hype and expectation simply too much to live up to? Well after listening to his album as a whole in my honest opinion he delivered and THEN some. This album is one of the most complete sounding debuts since Kid Cudi's fantastic Man on The Moon and most definitely one of the best albums to drop this year, in my top 5 as a matter of fact. Not once did i hit the skip button because the songs cohesively mesh together so it almost feels like the songs were made to play out like a movie and it forces you to listen all the way through. On this album Drake doesn't sound like a rookie at all, but then again in my eyes he hasn't sounded like a rookie since So Far Gone. Speaking of So Far Gone, I will go ahead and say that Thank Me Later really needed So Far Gone to come out because it wouldn't have made as much sense stylistically if it hadn't come b4 it. So Far Gone provided the prolouge and the platform for Drake to step up and take his story to the next level. In many ways Thank Me Later is the sequel to So Far Gone. Where on So Far Gone we saw a unsure, insecure and emotionally confused Drake, on Thank Me Later we see that he's risen above that fog and shows a more victorous and confident side while still maintaining the relatable vulnerability that made So Far Gone such a hit. While there are a solid amount of features from outside artists on the album this is still very much a Drake album, none of the features take away from Drake's musical journey which is what a lot of people worried about once the tracklist leaked. Lyrically Drake still showcases his signature punchline heavy stop and go flow, you can tell that he's been working hard to stepping up his game to hang with everyone. He's continuing to grow as an emcee and it shows. But if you ask me I'm most impressed with Drake when he comes up with these great melodies that we've come to know him for. He shows a lot of growth as a singer on the album and does a lot of experimenting with his vocals throughout each of the songs. You can tell that he took notes and ques from Sade and other smooth jazz artists because there are times where the beat will just keep going and he'll just be singing as if he was in a trance. It's almost like when they were in the studio, they just left the beat and his mic on and let him vibe out until he was finished. Sonically this is one of the strongest albums that I've heard all year. Sticking with in house producers Boi-1da and 40 for most of the beats on the album (Two beats from Kanye, and one from both Swizz Beatz and Timbaland), each beat on the album caters perfectly to Drake's melodic rapper style and he never once sounds out of place. The landscape of the album is very large without being overwhelming and solemn but not enough to be considered dark. I could compare this album to dawn rather than the night that was So Far Gone. The thing that I appreciate the most about this album is that it feels like Drake all the way through. Not once does it feel like he's trying to be something that he's not. He's not your typical rapper so this isn't your typical rap album. You can hear his appreciation for indie rock, jazz and even orchestra in the musically diverse beats on the album but it still remains very hip-hop by the end of the day. You can tell his label really gave him full creative control on this album and really trusted him to bring forth something great. While this may not be the straight up hip-hop album that fans of Comeback Season would be hoping for I feel like once people really take time to sit down and listen to the content on the album they will find themselves as impressed as I was. Thank Me Later is what you get when the underdog get's unsuspectingly thrust into the spotlight and has to deal with the sometimes overwhelming accolades and responsibility that come with the fame. Like a lot of the up and comers in this new school of hip-hop, Drake has let us into his life with his music and shares his fears, dreams, pain, happiness, losses and successes with anyone who will listen and if you ask me that is what true artists are supposed to do. In my book you can add Drake to the list of rappers that made impressive debuts along with Cudi, B.o.B., Kanye, Jay-Z and several others. I'm not very sure how people are gonna receive this one once it drops because of how different it is than anything else out right now but then again that's why it's called Thank Me Later now isn't it ;). Oh shit double post in one day! I go hard! (well..technically it's tomorrow but w/e lol). What you see up above is the video for "Dueces" which comes from Chris Brown and Tyga's collab mixtape, Fan Of A Fan (which is pretty dope btw, i recommend it). When I heard a video was dropped for it and knowing it was a low-tempo, break up song I was thinking that we were gonna get some sort of typical video where Tyga and Chris rapping/singing to their individual girls but the turn out wasn't really what I expected. The video has a real minimalistic and subtle feel to it and doesn't feel like they're trying to force the message in the song down the viewer's throat. There are a few girls in the video but they serve as little more than minimal eye candy. Cinematically this video is really dope to me. The wide open urban landscape that the video was shot in really yielded some really nice shots of the artists as the director experimented with shadows, angling and different types of shots. While there isn't a whole lot going on visually I think that's good because it helps enhance the artist's performances in the video. My favorite parts of the video came from the 3 artists walking down the alleyway dressed in dark colors with a car following behind them and Chris Brown showing off some amazing acrobatics and dance moves in a tunnel shrouded in darkness. All in all while it's not gonna win any awards or really blow anyone away I think this is a really well shot video that really showcases the power of doing a whole lot with a little. Treat Me Like Your Mother

I just peeped this video on Kanye's blog and I had to find and share it. It's the video for "Treat Me Like Your Mother" by The Dead Weather which is Jack White's like...3rd band lol. This video pretty much depicts a two lovers having an argument but with a twist. They always say bitter words cut deep and in this case they appear in the form of bullet rounds from a military grade machine gun lol. Jack and the girl in the video light each other up for a good part of the video until the end when they both seem to run out of "ammo" and just walk away from each other. I think it's probably one of the dopest and most creative ways that a lover's quarrel has been depicted in a video. It also doesn't hurt the song it's self is dope as hell too. I'm really curious as to how they pull off the whole video though because you can tell that there was no CGI involved. This is why I wanna be a director to find out all these things lol. The number 3 plays an integral part in our society when it comes to the finality of something. 3 strikes and your out, the 3rd movie/book ends a trilogy, etc. If we were referring to Drake's solo videos I'd have to say 3rd time is a charm. Best I Ever Had, while funny, wasn't the video that anyone hoped it would be. Over was a dope visual show but it still didn't really showcase Drake as an artist. So the video for Find Your Love was pretty much a make or break video and after watching it in it's entirety I can safely say that Drake has finally delivered a masterpiece. I'm not going to say anything about the video because it's really something that you have to see without anything being revealed to fully appreciate but what I will say is that it pays to have acting chops lol. There is a lot that I wanna say about this video but I want you all to see it for yourselves and give me you're feedback on the video. I look forward to your views. This isn't everyone's cup of tea but I've been listening to this song nonstop ever since it leaked. I'm VERY glad that Drake decided to showcase another side of his talent with the second single. Over showcased his ability to put out a hard hitting rap anthem and Find Your Love showcases his ability to put out a sincere love song. The moment the song starts you can already tell that this isn't going to be your average R&B track and as the song progresses and more instruments are added to the beat it's almost like following a story. Kanye's beat for the song has been called an 808's reject by a lot of people but I think that while it has an 808's feel to it it's much more lighthearted and summery than the darker tone of Heartbreak. You can definitely tell that Drake's been working with his vocal coach because his vocals on this song are the best that I've ever heard them (let's see how it sounds live) and while the lyrics aren't the deepest thing you've ever heard, they're sincere and relatable which matters to me more in a love song. There's something very infectious about the song as well because even people that say they hate the song have said they've listened to it repeatedly, for some reason it just keeps making your wanna replay it. Though I doubt that this song will do as well on the airwaves as Over did, I wanna applaud Drake for not going the generic route and putting out something different and adventurous to show off his musical versatility (I actually like Find Your Love more than Over). They Said My Future Was Dark...

So after weeks and weeks of rumors, delays and controversy Lupe has officially dropped the video for I'm Beamin' which serves as the intro video into the Lasers Era of Lupe Fiasco. I've been bangin this song on a constant basis since it dropped earlier this year and I'm glad that we finally get to put a dope visual to the song. The video isn't nearly as extravagant as previous videos of his such as Superstar or Paris, Tokyo, but instead goes for more of a creative almost arts and crafty feel. The clip features Lupe rapping as various kids with various cardboard cut-outs and little visual laser effects accompany certain things Lupe says in his verses. It's a straightforward but visually appealing and somewhat cute concept lol. I think the inclusion of the kids fits the uplifting message in the song overall so I can see why the director and Lupe decided upon that. I don't think I'm Beamin is the first official single off the album so I wouldn't be surprised if we get another more extravagant video in the coming months to accompany the first official single (kinda like he did with Dumb It Down and Superstar). But until we find that out, enjoy the video for I'm Beamin because it's definitely deserves recognition. Till next post, Rock on from Krypton

This post if gonna be a little long because there's two things I wanna talk about so bare with me lol.

So recently The Adventures of Bobby Ray, one of my most anticipated albums for 2010, leaked and not having the money to actually go out and buy the CD when it drops in a few days I just decided to download the album and give it a listen. This has got to be one of the most diverse and musically sound hip-hop albums to drop in recent memory. In a way I can compare it to Kid Cudi's debut album in terms of being great lyrically and sonically. B.o.B. really doesn't sound like he's dropping his debut album because in his songs he shows no signs of being unsure in his talent. He really pushes the boundaries of what we expect to hear on a hip-hop album with the songs featured on Adventures, actually the only song that I can REALLY say is a legit RAP song would be Bet I which features T.I. and Playboy Tre. He really covers all the things that I feel you need to make a great album, he has some radio-friendly songs (Nothin On You, Magic feat Weezer, Lovelier Than You, Bet I), a few records that focus on things that go on in the world around us (Fame, The Kids feat Janelle Monae) and some more creative/introspective tracks that make you think (Airplanes pts 1 & 2, Ghost In The Machine, Letters From Vietnam, Satellite, Past My Shades feat Lupe Fiasco). My favorite song on the entire album is Ghost In The Machine which can be heard above. It's a song that I think a lot of people can relate to about how the world around us sometimes changes completely to the point that everything is no longer familiar and we feel like ghosts just kind of existing. I'd love to hear Kid Cudi, Lupe, Andre 3000 on a remix to that song. Based off of his debut I really think that he has a bright future ahead of him in this business. He produced a good amount of the songs himself, he sings, raps and has the right amount of charisma to make people want to remember him. If you haven't heard much from B.o.B. do yourself a favor and check him out.

Now on to the next thing I wanted to talk about, Kick Ass. Yesterday I went out to finally see Kick Ass with a group of my closest friends. From the trailer that I'd seen a long time ago I was really hoping that this movie was gonna be good and after seeing it my expectations we COMPLETELY blown out of the water. Man was that movie fun!! This movie is not your typical superhero movie but that's because the story it's based on isn't about you're typical hero. Kick Ass pretty much addresses 2 questions that I know a lot of people who read comic books have asked themselves at least once in their lives, "Why hasn't any one tried to be a superhero?" and "What would happen if there were actual costumed heroes living among us?". The movie's main character Dave Lizewski (who reminds me of Peter Parker without the book smarts) asks his friends, himself and the audience these questions and instead of just letting be a what if, he makes himself a costume, gets some tonfas and becomes Kick Ass. One of the things that is great about this story is the fact that they don't try and make Dave look like a complete badass when he's Kick Ass, he has no sort of combat training, no real athletic ability or anything that really makes him spectacular. All he really has is the desire to help people when no one else will and an unbelievable threshold for pain (which I won't reveal why, you'll just have to see the movie). Throughout the movie we're introduced to 2 other costumed characters: Hit Girl and Big Daddy, who interact with Kick Ass and sort of mold him into more of a legit hero in their own weird ways. Big Daddy and Hit Girl are a father/daughter crime fighting duo who have absolutely no problems with mortally wounding or killing the people that they're fighting against as long as they get the job done. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that those two are one of the best father/daughter pairings in movie history lol. Even though they're trained killers in some odd way they have a very sweet and loving relationship. Big Daddy (which is Nicolas Cage's best role since Face/Off) is a awesome but Hit Girl steals the entire movie from everyone. I forgot the young actresses name but I remember her from 500 Days of Summer (another great movie) and she is a completely different person in this movie. She curses like a sailor, she kills without hesitation and still finds a way to be absolutely adorable while doing it. Oh did i mention that she's only 11? Yea, this movie went there. That's my favorite thing about it is movie, it just didn't give a fuck. It wasn't afraid to shock and offend you and that's why the movie worked out so well. Oh and I forgot about Red Mist (who everyone will remember as McLovin from Superbad) who I won't say much about because it'd kind of ruin the movie if I did. There's so much more that I could say about this movie, the soundtrack was amazing and really matched with the rebellious nature of the movie, the characters were believable, the fighting was topnotch but in the end it's driving to the same point. Take your guards down, turn off your brain, expect the unexpected and GO SEE THIS MOVIE NOW!!!

Ciara is a BEAST!

Ahhhh Ciara how I've missed you. Ciara has always been one of my favorite all time female singers because of how raw and sexy (she made me like tomboys) she was while being able to hang with the guys in terms of dancing. To me she's the closest thing we're gonna get to Aaliyah in this day in age. With her last album she was trying to go more of the pop route but finally on this album it seems like she's going back to her more gritty urban/R&B roots like on Goodies. In her video for her first single "Ride" we see a rejuvenated Ciara looking to reclaim her spot at the top of the female R&B game. I love the fact that it's only her (with the exception of Luda) in this video killin it with no back up dancers, it really helps you remember how dope she is. This video is overflowing with sexy (especially in the last 45 secs of the video) that I know the guys are gonna enjoy cuz I know i did. Overall this is a dope return for Ciara and I look forward to seeing and hearing more from her in the near future. Till next post, Rock on from Krypton

Like many other people I was greatly anticipating the video for this song, half to see how much he'd grown since the Best I Ever Had video and half to see what direction he was gonna go with the song. Ima go ahead and say that as of now this is tied with On To The Next One as my favorite video of 2010 so far and it has succeeded in making me even more excited for Thank Me Later. I already know that there are gonna be a lot of people who aren't gonna understand this video but that's the price you pay when you wanna try something different. Drake could've easily made this video what everyone would expect it to be with video girls, champagne spilling, money everywhere, etc; but instead he go Anthony Madler to help him take the video in the exact opposite direction. The video as a whole is very visually appealing with a lot of dope effects and transitions that keep you guessing what they're gonna do next to top the last visual. As for the story of the video you really have to pay attention to Drake's facial expressions and certain images in the video to get what he's trying to do. What I saw was Drake kind of torn between his past life and the life that fame has given him, especially when he says "What am I doing?" in the chorus. You also see a lot of growth in Drake when you compare this video to Best I Ever Had, He seems much more confident and sure of himself in this video. As we venture ever closer to June 15th when Thank Me Later drops, I'm very anxious to see what becomes of Drake because right now his star is only beginning to shine. The video above is for "The Broken" which is the first single off of Coheed & Cambria's most recent album "Year of the Black Rainbow" and godDAMN is it epic! I've been a fan of Coheed & Cambria since "Favor House Atlantic" so I was very excited to hear that they were coming out with a new album and once I heard how dynamic and powerful "The Broken" was it immediately made me think back to another one of my favorites from them "Welcome Home". One of my favorite things about Coheed is their penchant for epic storytelling and how cinematic their videos usually are. My all time favorite video of their's is Welcome Home and I must say after seeing the video for The Broken, that may just be tied for first place. This video depicts a post-apocalyptic war of epic proportions going on complete with dreary and grayscale color scheme and steampunk machinery. Things only proceed to get more chaotic at the climax of the video when some sort of pyramid is activated by an orb and rises up from underground. Now I'm not sure what the hell is supposed to be going on in the video story-wise (All of Coheed's albums follow the storyline of a comicbook series created by their lead singer Claudio) but what I do know is that whatever IS going on looks absolutely amazing. I would definitely like to see this story put out in movie format because with videos like this it's almost impossible to get curious about the story behind it all. Boondocks is Back!

Ok so I'm a HUGE fan of Boondocks, even b4 it became on of the best cartoon shows ever made, so when I heard there was gonna be a 3rd season I was uber-excited. They just released the trailer for the 3rd (and sadly final) season of Boondocks and DAMN is it epic! Exhibit A by Jay Electronica feels like the perfect backdrop for what looks like it'll be it's best and biggest season yet. From what I saw in the trailer we see the return of characters like Thugnificent and Gin & Rummy as well as a bevy of new characters (Sadly no Caesar v_v). Also I saw that as usual they'll be parodying a lot of current events the biggest and most obvious of these events being Obama's presidency. It also looks like there will be even more action this season which only makes since seeing as how this is the final season. There's alot more that I could say but I just want May 2nd to get here so I can sink my teeth into the controversially hilarious goodness that is The Boondocks. Till next post, Rock on from Krypton

Massive Attack

So I just peeped Nicki "Fine Ass" Minaj's video for the first single off her yet to be titled album called "Massive Attack" which was directed by Hype Williams. Though I'm a fan of Ms Minaj (her skills and her looks) I gotta say the song and the video left more to be desired. The song by itself is pretty catchy I won't lie but I'm not sure it'll be a big hit because it's not the kind of song you can listen to over and over again. I'm sure it'll kill in the clubs though. As far as the video, I think this is like the first video in a while by Hype Williams that I haven't though that much of. It kinda looked like a watered down version of the video for "Hard" by Rihanna and just wasn't edgy or original enough to pack a punch. One thing I will say though is that Nicki looked BOMB in the video. I definitely did a few rewinds when she was showin off her "assets" lol. She's definitely from the school of Lil Kim because her look and the way she was dancing in the video are pages right out of her book. But I digress, overall I was a little disappointed by Ms Minaj's first outting but there's always room for improvement. I still anxiously await her debut album. Goodbye Shawn...

So I'm a big wrestling fan (yea i know about 85% of it is scripted lol) and last night was Wrestlemania which if u don't know is like wrestling's Super Bowl, and at this massive event one match stood out more than every other match that night. Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker. The reason this was such a huge match was because The Undertaker has been undefeated at Wrestlemania for 17 (now 18 years) and has yet to find anyone who could beat his streak and Shawn Michaels faced him last year and came EXTREMELY close to doing just that. So this year they had a rematch but this time if Shawn lost he would have to retire from wrestling which was something I REALLY didn't want to happen. So I was with some of my friends and we witnessed possibly the greatest Wrestlemania match of all time that night. Both men beat the HELL out of each other to the point that neither one of em could get up for a little bit after the match. Unfortunately Shawn lost again this year and was forced to keep his word and retire. Every one in the room where I was at was stuck in silence as we watch Shawn Michaels take his final walk up the ramp with 72,000+ people chanting his name. It was definitely an emotional moment for sure and for anyone who saw it I'm sure you know what I mean. So goodbye Shawn, you had one HELL of a career and put up the best fight that I've seen in a long time. We're gonna miss you. Till next time, Rock on from Krypton

Forever (Youtube Remix)

Now usually I'm not really into internet rappers and their remixes of popular songs but this is an exception. Some of the most popular stars on youtube joined together to make a sick remix to the smash Forever. Everyone came hard on the record but the verses that really stood out to me were Dumbfounded, D-Pryde and Traphik. Dumbfounded's flow was really wat stood out in his verse as he rode the beat almost flawlessly. D-Pryde (who I'm guessing woulda been Eminem in this case) showed a lot of passion and aggression in his verse addressing a lot of comments about him being an asian rapper. And last but certainly not least Traphik dropped possibly the dopest verse he's ever spit, a lot of dope refrences and clever choice of wording in his verse. Apparently his verse went over a lot of people's heads but I definitely appreciated his references and found myself smiling at his verse. So I had a conversation with my grandmother today about fighting/violence and things of the sort and we both were at a loss as to why people enjoyed it. Me personally I don't like violence and even when I'm pissed off I'd rather talk it out or just walk away from the situation instead of hitting someone in the face. I've some fights in person and watched even more on youtube, not because I like it, but because I'm just amazed at the spectacle. It's ridiculous and even more scary to see how people act when a fight breaks out. Almost reminds me of the Gladiator Colosseum in the days of the old. Watching two people beat on each other for sometimes as long as 5+ minutes will constantly egging them on and sometimes jumping in. And what's even more sad is people would join the fight before they would try and stop it from happening. It's like people aren't fully aware that there are two people in there practically beating each other to death, or maybe they are completely aware of that and just don't care which is even worse. Coming from experience being involved in a fight is a scary feeling because it's pretty much you trying to survive and on top of that people barely fight fair anymore so then fights nowadays truly do become a matter of life and death. I think the aftermath of a fight bothers me more than the fight itself at times. Just the scene of disturbing to me. Blood everywhere, sometimes teeth, someone struggling to stand up or not getting up at all. I think it may be because I'm a very visual person but that's an image that always sticks with me. Things like Boxing, Martial Arts and other fights done for sport don't really bother me because these people are trained to do this, there are strict rules involved and if someone's in true danger (except for accidents) then the fight will be stopped. Sadly this doesn't apply to the outside world and that's always gonna bother me because I don't see that ever changing as long as I'm on this earth smh. I think we'd all be better off with a little bit more love in this world. I'm gonna stop rambling on now so I'll just leave yall with a little message that Lupe's been giving lately at all his concerts, "Love Always Shines Everytime Remember 2 Smile". Shut It Down

So not a whole lot is goin on in my life right now but you know I ALWAYS have time to post some music or videos I'm into and this is no different. Up top is the latest leak off of Drake's album Thank Me Later called "Shut It Down" feat The Dream. This song serves as a stark contrast to his first single "Over" as this song is pure R&B. Much like most of the tracks on So Far Gone, this song features some simple and mellow production with Drake and Dream crooning about a girl who can "shut it down" with everything she does. I think this song is more geared toward romance than Drake's other female geared hit "Best I Ever Had" and I'm sure ladies will eat it up for that reason. Definitely another solid leak from Drake's debut album which I anticipate more and more with each leak or bit of news. Check it out and tell me what you think of it. Rock on from Krypton

R.I.P. Nujabes

I woke up this morning to some saddening news. Well respected but criminally unknown Japanese producer Nujabes (Jun Seba) died recently in a fatal car accident. I haven't really been able to find out when exactly he did die but it has been confirmed that he has passed on from this Earthly realm. Sadly to many this won't mean much but to those who were fans of his and followed his music this is a crucial blow to the music world. In my view he has crafted some of the best musical masterpieces of all time. Sampling old bossa nova and funk music as well as composing his own original pieces, his music was always very organic, calming and ethereal in nature. Having worked with rappers such as Substantial, Shing02, CL Smooth and even Pete Rock, he probably got most of his American exposure for composing the musical backdrop for the popular anime Samurai Champloo which fused feudal samurai action with hip-hop/jazz music. Many a time have i found myself feeling shitty or just in need of some relaxation and I just lost myself in his music. It's a damn shame that not that many people know of him nor will they care that he has passed on but speaking for all his fans, Rest in Peace Jun, you will be greatly missed by those who knew your work. My heart and prayers go out to his family and those close to him. Yet another great has been accepted in the massive dance party in heaven. Up above are some of my favorite songs by Nujabes and I encourage you all to look into more of his work, i promise you will not be disappointed. Rock on from Krypton

This is the most recent video from one of my favorite bands right now, Miike Snow. This video is for they're most recent single "Silvia", which just so happens to also be one of my favorite songs of theirs', so I was pretty excited to see what they'd do with the video. The moment the video starts you get the feeling that something has happened to the planet because the members of the band are just laying in the middle of the barren road. The whole video follows the 3 members of the band as the make their way towards some sort of bonfire (not exactly sure what the significance of it was though). Though the message of the video isn't very clear, I do love the feel and look of the video. It reminds me of a cross between The Book of Eli, Defiance and a little bit of Twilight because of the heavy forest scenery. I really like a lot of the shots they got of the band members just walking too. I'm a sucker for dope cinematic shots. Pursuit Of Happiness Version Duece

I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this version of the video. Albeit that it fits the mood of the song a little better than the first video, it was a tad bit confusing especially when he kept landing back on the couch. It's not a bad video at all though, I actually quite liked both incarnations of the song for different reasons. I do like how the video seems like a big dream or drug trip and I also like that they actually featured Ratatat in the video this time. Cudi has always seemed like more of an alternative artist who just happens to rap more than an emcee and this video just continues to showcase that. Even though I loved Cudi's debut album I gotta say that I'm pretty disappointed in the singles that he decided to put out. I really would've liked to see Sky Might Fall, Solo Dolo and Heart of A Lion in video form but I guess I'll just have to continue to make up videos for the songs in my head seeing as how he's already pretty far in on his next album. 21 Years on this Earth

So as of today I've officially reach the infamous milestone in life that is 21 and I must say it feels weird to be saying that seeing as sometimes I still feel 18 lol. At this point in the eyes of the public I am OFFICIALLY an adult and I'm pretty much able to do almost anything including get into some dumb shit and go to big time jail lol. When I think about being on this earth for 21 years I can't help but be eternal grateful to God, my family and friends who have stayed with me for all these years and pretty much made it so that I could make it here. Many people in this world don't even make it close to this age because their life is stolen from them by some unfortunate and random occurrence so I will continue to live each day as it comes to me and be thankful for seeing the sun coming in to my retinas because it means that I made it to another day. So you're probably wondering what I'm gonna do with my birthday huh? I know that it's almost tradition to go out and get wasted at a bar or a club but personally that's not really my thing plus I'd like to remember my birthday and not through pictures on facebook of me dry humping the ground. Today I'm going out with a bunch of my closest guy friends and we're gonna hit up Hooters and then just chill, pop a few bottles and just talk about our lives up to this point. Tomorrow I'm heading out to Arundel Mills (a big mall in Maryland for those not from here) with a big group of my friends, gonna catch a movie and then go to Dave n Busters. It's not gonna be an extravagant weekend but it will sure as hell be fun! If I'm feeling up to it i'll post a few pix from the weekend up on the blog but most of em you'll be able to find on facebook (Marcus SoloDolo Fiasco). Don't Call It A Comeback

This is what you call a comeback video! The guys behind the Gorillaz really went all out for this video! The video is pretty much a mini action movie which sees 2-D, Murdoc and Noodle (who appears to be a robot now o_O) running away from a lone cop and Bruce Willis (who seems to be a bounty hunter or someone who has some sort of history with them). Any one who's seen videos from the Gorillaz know that they are known for their animated monikers so when i saw their new CG bodies i was slightly freaked out, but once i got used to it i think it'll make for some interesting videos from now on. The ending of video leads you to think that there's much more to this story and I for one can't wait to see the next chapter in the Plastic Beach story. Peep the video and tell me watcha think! This is an old note I posted on facebook like a year ago that I was rereading today and thought I'd post it on the good ole blog. Tell me what you guys thing.

As humans we are very contradictory creatures. Especially when emotions are involved. We smile to mask pain, We attack to cover up insecurity, We’d rather get caught in a lie a million times rather than face the overwhelming power of the truth once. In matters of the heart things only continue to get more complicated. So many rules, mindsets, preferences, borders, etc just to be happy. To ascend to the infamous Cloud 9. But once we obtain that happiness our humanity kicks in and we find away to sabotage the good. We frantically search for the bad because we’re so used to it that we find some sick security in the fact that it exists. Because let’s face it we wouldn’t be humans without “the bad”. So we’ll push away the light just to run back into the darkness only to repeat the process again and again. And of course we believe that what we’re doing is right, why? Because it’s all we know. We’ve been surrounded by examples and experiences filled with negativity so of course we’re gonna follow that path. Heh…sadly though, once we realize just what it is that we’ve been doing…it’s already too damn late. Once we suddenly have that ill-timed epiphany we start on a never-ending journey to recapture that light that we cast aside for the familiarity of darkness. It’s sad that when we decide to take risks it’s always much later than we should’ve.

Is true love really letting go of something and hoping it falls into the right hands later? Or is true love a much more selfish feeling? Maybe TRUE love is chasing after that one thing even for an eternity until it’s in your hands again. Maybe that love is true because you know in you’re heart that there’s no one on the planet that would do the things you do for that person…

…but then again maybe true love is just letting go…

Who am I to decide? I’m just a joker on the stage singing the blues.

Memories Made In The Coldest Winter...

So first let me start of by saying that this is one of my favorite Kanye West songs of all time and in my view one of his most relateable songs. Whether male or female we've all lost a love whether it's a lover or family member at least once so I think we can all feel where he's coming from on this song. When I heard they were making a video for this since I knew it was dedicated to his mother I thought it'd be a video of him standing in front of his mothers grave during a blizzard and him kind of singing to her spirit. But the video I saw was completely different then that but that's definitely not a bad thing. This video like almost all of Kanye's videos (especially recently) isn't so much of a music video as it is an experience. He tweaked the song a little bit to add a more epic feel to it to match dark theme of the video and presented us with visually stunning yet minimalistic video. He's not present in the video at all but you can feel his presence in the video. I won't give away what happens in the video but it's definitely a beautiful one. With this being the last video (i think) of the 808s & Heartbreak era, It's only fitting that he put out a video for his most personal and the last song on the album. As we close one era in his life I can only imagine what kind of song and video will start off the next one. That's the beauty of Kanye's music, you never quite know what to expect. Imma Be Rockin That Body

So here is yet another video (or double video should i say) from The E.N.D. era of the Black Eyed Peas. Now even though I think the album is pretty solid and damn fun to listen to, I have you to really be blown away by any of the videos yet. While visually they've been eye catching (but the Black Eyed Peas have always had visually dope videos), To me they've all just kinda been random with lackluster dancing. Nonetheless i had high hopes for this video because it was a combo of two of my fave tracks off the album. The Imma Be video was a big let down in my view, there was nothing really spectacular about it to me and if it were a standalone video it would've been whack but since it led into the Rock Your Body video it served it's purpose. The Rock Your Body video started at about the 5 minute mark and that's when the video picked up. I liked the concept of the Peas going around blasting everyone with shockwaves from these speaker guns they had and it was really cool to see some people from past seasons of So You Think You Can Dance amongst the dancers. But once again there was just a lot going on on the screen and no real balance. I would've much rather seen them do a group choreo rather than having a bunch of random dancing going on. While I'm sure it was fun as hell on the set it just didn't translate well on to the screen to me. Also the giant robot battle at the end just looked bad to me, you can tell that they had two actual dancers battle each other in motion capture suits but in their robot forms the dancing just looked stuff and awkward. While this isn't a bad video (it's the best one that they've made off their new album to me) it's just nothing amazing once again. The Music Keeps Me Sane

So I live in Maryland and as most of you know the whole East Coast got blasted recently by Snowtorious B.I.G. (or Snowmageddon if you like) and Maryland was one of the states to get hit the hardest. Because of this I can't really go outside to do anything but shovel so my day's have been spent inside practically rooting and resisting cabin fever. Only thing that are keeping me sane are movies and music and I thought I'd post a few songs that I've had on repeat during this time.

The first is called "What U Want" by Lupe Fiasco and it's a recently leaked song off of Lasers (Sorry Lupe!). The moment the beat hits you can immediately tell that this will be a very mellow song and it is in fact one of Lupe's most chill songs. Lupe puts on his best Cudi impression and kind of sing-raps his way through the song telling the story of a conflicted young woman living in the nightlife. Now according to Lupe the song is a unfinished version but nonetheless it's a dope song that along with Shining Down and I'm Beamin will continue to tie me over till Lasers drops.

The second song is called "Burial" from one of my new favorite bands Miike Snow. The band premiered on the scene in 2009 and is made up of Bloodshy & Avant (the producers behind Britney Spears smash "Toxic") and the lead singer Andrew Wyatt. The band is under the genre of Indie-pop but they definitely have some Electronic influence in there as well. Burial is my favorite of all of their songs and has been on constant repeat on my ipod.

And last but not least is "Flashback" by Calvin Harris aka the King of Electro-Pop. Calvin Harris is another one of my new favorite artists and his album Ready For The Weekend is one of the most fun and danceable albums that I've heard in a while. I decided to put the video up because I thought it was a dope video and can really give you a good visual to go with the song's story. I definitely have to see this guy live one day.

Kid Cudi is everywhere lately from guest apperances in songs and videos (none of them being rap artists which is just a testament to his versatility) to his new show How To Make It In America, which is definitely something that I'll be watching because the first episode is great. This is one of the few videos that got release with Kid Cudi featured in it in the last couple of days. It's a remix of "Symphonies" which is a song by electro-pop artist Dan Black. The two have great chemistry on the song and Kid Cudi's sing-songy style of rap really fits in here. The video itself is really dope and I love the concept of them jumping through various movie themes throughout the video. I definitely wouldn't mind hearing another song between the two in the future. Thank you to the guys from The Real for making this video because it is LONG OVERDUE. Though it's hilarious I think it's also awesome because for once someone's actually stickin up for Kanye. My favorite line from the song was "You made it a hot moment/he made it your career" cuz on the real nothing against Ms. Swift but if that hadn't happened at the VMAs then she would definitely not being winning Album of the Year at the Grammy's that's for sure. I fuckin love this guy lol. Some people aren't that impressed with him but to me he perfectly matches laid back swag with effective punchlines. He reminds me of a younger Kanye mixed with a southern rapper. The instrumental from Gucci Mane's (ugh) song Lemonade matches Big Sean's style perfectly and if u ask me woulda been better if Big Sean was on the original or if it was his song period. The freestyle is full of clever little quotables so I'm sure you'll find yourself smirking at least once lol. Definitely on my top 10 list of most anticipated albums dropping this year. Waves Of Change

Wass good blogger world? Been a little bit since I've actually written a blog that's actually been a legit update on my own life. Mostly because I don't find my life to be interesting enough to blog about on a daily basis lol. But lately things have been moving forward in my life hopefully for the better. During the break I took a lot of time to recharge my batteries because fall semester practically drained me of all of my energy and I just wanted to say fuck doing anything for the break I'm just gonna sleep it away lol. During the break aside from hangin out with friends and getting back some of my social life, I got involved on some really cool projects. And besides that my acting life just beginning as I'm gonna be in a play produced by a family friend which begins official production next year and other acting gigs in the near future that you be on the look out for. I recently came to the conclusion that even though school is important, I feel as though I've learned less than I've paid for and that right now I should just be focusing on working, networking and trying to hone my craft as an actor. I may go back to school one day, may not, only time can tell that but for now I'm ready to get out there and chase my dream of Hollywood. Also recently I've strengthened my relationship with God and I really feel at ease with a lot of things that used to bother me alot which makes it easier for me to progress in life now. I'm over my ex (most of u will remember me talking about her in previous posts) and I'm ready to mingle. As my 2010 anthem goes "On to the Next one". Besides that life's been pretty normal lately so i'll end my update here. I'll be sure to post updates like this in the future when things come up or begin to change again. I'm currently in love with this song. Most of you probably know Matthew Santos as the guy who's collaborated with Lupe Fiasco on several songs (most notably Superstar) but don't know much about him outside of that. Well as an artist he's very different than he is in his guest vocals on Lupe's songs. He's much more acoustic/soul driven rather than pop-star. It's no secret that the guy has an amazing voice but it's song like this that perfectly showcase that. It's one of those songs that when I close my eyes I imagine sitting outside watching the world with a special someone...but enough of me being a hopeless romantic lol. Freedom/Million Dollars

First video in my music video post if for "Million Dollars" by Big Sean. This track came out a while back on his first Finally Famous mixtape so its a bit of an oldie but I'm glad it was made into a video because it's one of my favorite tracks of his and I think it came out at a really good time in a period where a lot of things seem kind of desolate and bleak. The song's really uplifting and the video does a good job of capturing the feeling of the song through different characters and their lives. Definitely check this out and if you want more Big Sean check out his mixtapes Finally Famous Vol 1 and UKNOWBIGSEAN.

This next video is for the first track off of the Clipse' new album Till The Casket Drops called "Freedom". Probably the most emotional and revealing track that Clipse has ever released it's only right that they don't do anything over the top with the video and let you focus more on they're emotion and the lyrics. The video is nothing special by it's self but with the song it just works. I personally hope they make videos for either "Champion" or "Footsteps" cuz those are two of my favorite tracks off of the album. Definitely check it out if you haven't already.

The last video is for "Let There Be Drums" off of RJD2's most recent album The Colossus. This video is so fuckin weird and random and i love it lol. Live My Life Alone

Heard this song a while back and stopped listening to it till recently and I'd completely forgotten how much I love this song. In this song T.I. channels his inner rocker and the result is much more impactful than almost all of Lil Wayne's rock stuff. The song has a real grunge-metal feel to it with it's dark synths and heavy bass serving as the backdrop for T.I.'s almost Kurt Cobain-esque vocals. The lyrics in this song are really powerful portraying a man's bleak outlook on life as his relationship is slowly dying and with the almost villian-like way that T.I. sings the song you can tell that he was drawing from a personal experience. What also adds to the impact of this song is the fact that this this song pretty much came out of nowhere. I'm pretty sure T.I. himself never thought he'd be making a legit rock song in his life so you know that it must've been a pretty dark event to push him to release this song. I can appreciate this song more on repeated listens then most of Wayne's rock songs for the simple fact that I feel like T.I. isn't just doing this just to do it, this was like his 808s & Heartbreak moment and he's gonna keep it moving from there. So i was watching some solos from this season of So You Think You Can Dance and i remembered this song from Legacy's final solo on the show. Flashing Lights is one of my all time favorite Kanye West songs and Vitamin Strings Quartet stripped it down and turned it into a song that you could listen to at an upscale dinner party lol. I wouldn't be surprised if Kanye heard this and that was what decided to put a string section in his band for this song during his live performances. So Wayne's second video in his Rebirth series premiered today and it's for "On Fire". Now I personally like this song because it's a good mix of rap and rock so it doesn't make it seem like Wayne is trying too hard. Honestly the video is nothing special and it's kinda random if you ask me lol. I do like the performance shots and some of the lil visual things they do are cool but overall it's nothing that'll make me wanna re-watch it several times. Now that I think about it none of Wayne's videos are that spectacular to me. Maybe because Kanye's set my video bar ridiculously high lol. I really wanna see a video of Wayne actually playing the guitar because if he can really play i'd have much more respect for his whole rockstar crossover. "When you're lost, you're willing to believe anything..."

Now I know what you and probably most of the people who say this trailer when it debuted a while back are thinking. This is just some Watchmen/Sin City knock off. When I first saw this trailer early last year I thought the same thing but I was still intruiged enough to want to see it. Unfortunately for me it was never released in the US (if it was it was only in select theaters and got on press) and only came out in the UK. So I waited a while and then finally when a DVD quality version surfaced, I downloaded it and put it on my PS3. I'd been wanting to watch it but due to a mix of hectic scheduling and overall laziness I never got around to sitting down to watch it. But today I finally sat down and watched it all the way through and I'm very glad that I did. I'm gonna warn you up front, if you're expecting this movie to be a kind of action/superhero type movie then I suggest you don't even waist your time because this is far from that. The few moments that there is any action are pretty cool but nothing revolutionary, it's the psychological aspect of the film that makes it special. First thing that I'll point out about the film is that it's very well shot. The backgroud for "Meanwhile City" is very captivating and kind of reminds me of something out of Pan's Labrynith or the second Hell Boy movie. It's very hard to believe that this was all crafted by a man who'd never directed a full length feature before. Another great thing about the film are the characters. Each character is 3-D so you get to really delve into who they are as people. Though you don't get a whole lot of backstory on either of them you do get enough to make sense of their actions. As i stated before though it's the story that really makes this a standout film. It's very deep rooted in both religion and the human subconsciousness. I don't want to give anything away because anything I could tell you would ruin the entire movie but I will say that it has one of the best twists that I've ever seen in a movie and it's well executed as well so it doesn't come off as ridiculous (I'm lookin at you M. Night Shamaylan). Though the movie is far from perfect (there are definite amatuer mistakes that the director made) it's still one hell of a trip through the psychological aspect of humanity and I guarantee that if you sit through the movie and actually pay attention, you'll be very satisfied once the credits roll. Greeting Earthlings, it's the kryptonian here. How was everyone's year? Good I hope and if not then I'm hoping 2010 is a brighter tomorrow for you. My year was pretty shaky. Not nearly as bad as 2008 (worst year of my life) but it wasn't too great either. Started off pretty brightly and I was really optimistic about the year. I thought that I was finally ready to take charge of my life and but this year showed me that I still have much growing to do. This year I realized both my maturity and immaturity. This year was very physically, mentally and at times emotionally draining as I got my first glimpse at independance by having my first full time job and still going to school. You never quite realize how little money you have until you get it. This semester of school was probably my most enlightening but at the same time my most stressful mainly because of my photography class. I realized that though I love photography, I could never do it professionally. It was this year that I truly fell in love with acting though. My acting class was the best class that I've ever had in my college tenure and I only hope that I continue to grow and shape my craft. It was also this year that showed me that I should value my life more because tomorrow isn't promised for anyone. With multiple celebrities dying suddenly this year and countless others elsewhere it was almost as if a dark cloud was spread over the latter part of 2009. Though that dark cloud I was able to get closer to my friends and family. My love life was nonexistent this year much to my disdain. A few oppuritunites came my way but none of them developed into anything and all the while I still battle with my feelings for my ex. I'd love for her to be back with me but I never expect for it to happen. We will always share this strong but somewhat twisted bond that will never let us be too apart from each other but also never quite in each others arms. It's a fucked up reality. After all of the death, epiphanies and growth that came with 2009 I can only hope that 2010 allows sunshine to break through that dark cloud that shrouded 09. I believe that a lot of deaths happened in 09 (figuratively and literally) to transition us all into a new wave of things to come in 2010 and onward. I have a lot to look forward to in 2010 and as I continue on my road to maturity I hope that 2010 is a little easier on all of our psyches lol. Catch you on the other side ;). Rock on from Krypton

Just saw this trailer on Blazing Swarm (big ups to them on the dope site) and I gotta say that this looks dope as hell. Big fan or both Forest Whitaker and Jude Law so i will be seeing this. Now alot of people are upset with the movie because it draws a heavy resemblane to Repo! The Genetic Opera. Now I saw the preview for that movie as well and while I can see the resemblence I look at it as not a rip off but more of the same movie in a different vein. Repo! is more of like Edward Scissorhands meets Dark City meets Rocky Horror Show, where as Repo Men! looks like a straight up action movie. Even though the concept in the video has been used before many times, Fabolous and Amerie have a really good on screen chemistry so you were really engaged in their story. Greetings Earthlings. Hope you slept well and to those of you who are still sleeping, hope your sleeping well. Been a while since i've been blogging on a consistent basis and because of that I've seen a good amount of my followers have jumped ship (which I can't really blame em for) but ima keep it movin. Business as usual. A lot's been on my mind lately so here's another burst of randomness from your's truly.

-I'm thinking that once I have kids ima name em Aiden and Isabella. I always thought Aiden was a cool ass name and Isabella i like. plus i can nickname her Izzy =). Who know's what can change between then and now though.

-Lil Wayne + Ludacris + Trina + Boobs = Nicki Minaj

-Though I still definitely wanna direct in the future, my main focus for a while now will be acting. I fell in love with acting this semester at school and so I think I'm gonna stick with it and see where it takes me.

-I'm considering taking up rapping. As silly as that sounds I just wanna try my hand at it. As much hip-hop that I listen to I constantly find myself having random punchlines and song ideas pop into my head so I wanna see if i'd be any good at it.

-I'm still not over my ex, probably never will be, but I am strong enough now where I can stand on my own two feet and keep it moving. I'm always gonna love that girl though, sadly she probably doesn't get that.

-For all you fellow wrestling fans, I think wrestling has been pretty dope lately. They've really been uping the ante with all this fresh new talent such as Sheamus and Drew Mcyintre, plus they've been pushing the younger talent like Kofi Kingston, John Morrison, Dolph Ziggler and others to new heights. 2010 should be an interesting year for WWE.

-Shock Value II is one fun album to listen to, I like it more than the first one.

-Miley Cyrus gave me a new reason to hate her guts by dissing Jay-Z in an interview recently and claiming that she's "never heard a Jay-Z song before in her life". Even the interviewer was taken back. This bitch needs to get off her high horse and learn some respect asap.

-Heard and loved both Rihanna and Chris Brown's newest albums. Rated R is kinda like Rihanna's Dangerous where Graffiti is Chris' Invincible. Rated R shows off a new, darker side of Rihanna that I honestly feel suits her. Never really liked any of her albums until this one. Graffiti on the other hand is much more high energy but at the same time shows a more mature and at times remorseful side of Chris. A lot of people at praising Rihanna's album and bashing Chris' album which of course is less about the music and more about the domestic violence incident which to me is ridiculous but hey that's society for you. Both delivered their best albums yet to me and I wish them both nothing but the best in the future.

-I'm real blown that Lupe cancelled his christmas mixtape but I can understand why he did. One thing that has always pissed me off about him though is the grand promises that he makes but sometimes doesn't follow through on (a remixed version of The Cool by Justice, The Cool Graphic Novel, Lasers being due out in 2009 and now this). Even though I love the guy I think he should really think alittle more before he makes these plans so that he can actually see if he can pull things things off and not get his fans hopes up. I'm hoping 2010 is a great year for him though because Enemy of the State definitely put him on people's radar.

-I'm really proud of and happy for Drake. He's definitely done a great job at taking advantage of his buzz and it shows. He dropped one of the most complete mixtapes to drop in a while and he could've very well just sat back and rode on that wagon till 2010 but instead he's capitalized on that hype and rode a huge tsunami sized wave all over 2009. Being featured on everyone from close friend Trey Songz to R&B Legend Mary J Blige's album and even holding his own against the likes of Eminem and Kanye West on Forever, this kid has defintely impressed me. The dude's also got a real genuine air about him which makes u feel like he is truly greatful to be in this position and doesn't take it for granted. I'm definitely looking forward to his debut album Thank Me Later. I know it'll be a sick album.

-Something about Charles Hamilton really irks me. I always knew the guy seemed a little off but I kinda overlooked it because he was droppin some dope stuff but now that he's coming back he's just a little TOO cocky. He's still a rookie in the game with no real kind of guidance so to me Charles Hamiton is the equivalent to a little kid you left at home with a box of crayons and a big white wall. He's a talented dude but he's just immature and speaks out of his ass alot. He needs to calm that down or else he's gonna end up fuckin his chances at superstardom up.

-I miss Kanye West -_-. Hope the time off is workin out for him so he can come back and channel all that confusion, pain and controversy into a sick ass comeback album.

-One thing I hate about winter time (besides it completely sucking ass) is that there's almost nothing on television. When winter comes around most good TV shows take a break and go into production for more episodes so all we're left with are reality TV shows and re-runs, bleh. I miss White Collar, Smallville, Heroes, Vampire Diaries (yea i said it) and Supernatural. Thank god from Scrubs, Community and Better off Ted.

-2010 is gonna be a DOPE year for movies, I have so much that I want to see and I can't wait >.<.

-In retrospect, 2009 felt kind of like freshman year of high school for me. Started off hopeful and bright, then things start to get kind of rough and you realize that you're not as mature as you thought you were. Find out some new things about yourself and then by the end of the year you go into the next year not exactly knowing what to expect, but have a newfound understanding of things. To put it shortly, 2009 was a transitional year.

-With all the deaths of big celebrities this year (R.I.P. to all of them) do you think this is also a part of that transition in a new decade? A part of me feels like its almost making way for new faces and talent to rise up into the spotlight and shine as 2010 starts off a new era. I could be wrong though but I just get that feeling.

-I love my PS3, I named her Sweetest Taboo XD. if you got one and wanna add me, my PSN name is Kid Prodigy.

-I have my eyes on girls but I'm not looking for them anymore. Every attempt that I've made recently has been turned away so now ima just do my thing until someone comes to me....unless I wait 10 years and nothing happens then i'm taking drastic measures! lol.

-Because of my work schedule I'm gonna miss going down to SC with the fam for Christmas so I pretty much have the house to myself for the week...Any ladies wanna come keep me company? lol.

Movie Perfection Personified

There are some movies that entertain us, there are some movies that move us emotionally, and then there are those rare occasions where a movie does both of those things and changes the way we view films and at times even life itself. Avatar is one of those movies. Honestly when i first saw the previews I admitted that it was a beautiful looking film but it didn't draw me in. I sit here right now telling you that I'm SO glad that I didn't let that stop me from seeing it. Avatar is the best movie I've seen all year (and that's saying something) and I'll go on a limb and say that it'll go down in history as one of the greatest movies ever made. Let me start off by saying that this movie is fucking GORGEOUS. The colors were vibrant and rich and the CGI was so clean that you almost forget that the alien race in the film aren't actors themselves. It apparantly took James Cameron 4 years to complete this film and I can see why. There aren't enough words for me to describe how visually intoxicating the movie was. The film's story was also really well done. There were no plot holes, slow moments or questions left unanswered, everything was very complete. Usually during a 3 hour long movie, no matter how great it is, my mind begins to wander. But this is the first time that I've been engrossed for the entire 3 hours without thinking of anything else. The overlaying message (Preserving the Planet) in the movie has been touched on before in other films in different ways, but unlike other films the message isn't thrown in your face. One of my biggest worries once i saw the trailer is that it was just going to be a giant PSA about the rain forest, but the story grabs you so well that you'll end up leaving the theater wanting to hug a tree lol. Another great thing about the film were the performances from the actors. I'd seen Sam Worthington in other films (most notably Terminator Salvation) but it wasn't until now that I saw him as truly amazing. He was very strong in this and did a great job at showing his character's growth from being just a former soldier to the a leader. Other human roles that really stuck with me were Stephen Lang, who served as the movie's antagonist, and frequent collaborator with James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver. To me though the strongest performances in the movie were from the people of Pandora. The story does such a great job developing them and drawing you into their world that you end up feeling like you know them and wanting them to succeed. I honestly teared up at a few parts and it's hard to make me do that. For the Na'vi (the alien race), James Cameron seemed to have drawn inspiration from Native American and Aztec culture, because the way they are represented in the film reminds me of one of those tribes. They were a beautiful species. Zoe Saldana blew me away in this movie and I think this is the best performance she's had to date. Because she isn't a human you only see her as a Na'vi and she plays the part SO well. Everything from speaking the alien language and the accent to her sometimes animalistic instincts (hissing, growling, etc) was completely believable. Without giving to much away her passion in the role is also something to see. She had me hooked the entire film. The scale of this movie is so ridiculous that I found myself lost in this new world that was presented to me and I didn't want to be found. There is so much more that I want to say about the film but I'll end up taking up an entire page and spoiling the entire movie for those of you who still would like to see it. This movie is the perfect way to end a year of some great cinema and venture into a new year of very promising new films. It's things like this the constantly remind me why I want to be apart of this business more than anything. Rap...Rock. Usually when you hear those two words next to each other people are usually referring to a mash up (ala Jay-Z/Linkin Park Collision Course) or Nu-Metal (ala Rage Against The Machine and sadly...Limp Bizkit -_-), But in Lil Wayne's case it's literally Rap and Rock infused into one style. It's kind of hard to explain but I guess you could say that Wayne used approaches the songs on this album as a rocker but maintains his swag as a rapper. Now I won't lie, the moment I heard about Lil Wayne making a "rock album" I laughed the idea to scorn sure that it would be a train wreck. Then Prom Queen dropped and I became interested in hearing how the rest of the project would sound. After countless delays my anticipation for the album began to dwindle substantially and by the time he set a real release date I honestly no longer cared. So the other day I was on Blazing Swarm (check em out, dope music site) and I saw that the album had leaked so I downloaded it and gave it a listen. Now I'm not the biggest Wayne fan in the world but I can honestly say that I'm really impressed with how well done this album actually is. You can tell that either Wayne listened to a lot of rock during the recording process or was already a fan or rock music before hand because it's not just him rapping over beats with guitars in them. Each song on the album sounds like a different subcategory of rock. One song may have a grunge/alternative feel to it, the next will sound like metal and then the next will sound like pop/rock, so on and so forth. Reportedly Wayne did some of the guitar work on the album and if this is true not only might that explain all the delays (due to him training) but also makes me gain respect for Wayne's work ethic. As expected Wayne whips out the ole Auto-tune for all of the vocals on the album but to me it's less of a distraction and more of a way to creatively enhance the distortion in his already raspy voice and give the songs more umph. Lyrically this album is surprisingly diverse. While it's no masterpiece, Wayne definitely stepped his songwriting skills up for the album to make the song lyrics actually sound like something you'd hear in a rock song (with the occasional rapper slang thrown in for good measure). On songs such as Prom Queen, Paradice (a play on the words Paradise and Pair of Dice), Runnin and Drop The World (which features a passionate verse from Eminem that sounds like something off of the Eminem Show) you see Wayne showcase his storytelling ability as he crafts some of his best songs thus far. I know a lot of people are going to be really confused by this album and probably even more will shun it without actually giving it a try (and i can't say I blame em) but for those of you that decide to give it a listen I think you'll be in for a pleasant surprise. Ballsy attempt Mr. Carter, I applaud you for not being safe and taking a risk. I give the album a 3.5 out of 5. Rock on from Krypton

Kanye Madness

Seems that since the incident at the VMAs the entire world is attacking one of my favorite artists of all time and I wanna weigh in on the situation from my point of view. I like everyone else was shocked when I saw what Kanye did to Taylor Swift during her speech and even lost a degree of respect for him after that. I was just so confused as to why he would even do that especially in the middle of her speech. I personally think that was a comment that he coulda kept to himself. But at the same time I think people are going WAY too far with this bullshit. Taylor is a big girl and she clearly isn't that devastated by what happened. Sadly this incident had cause people to say horrible things about Kanye and make him out to be some sort of a racist asshole which isn't true at all. This incident has made Kanye possibly the most hated celebrity in Hollywood at the moment and in turn made Taylor Swift look like a complete angel and victim. Ever since the event Kanye has apologized 2 times on his blog and then once recently on Jay Leno and yet everyone is riding it off as "damage control" or a publicity stunt. Did anyone see what I saw? What I saw on Jay Leno was a broken and confused man who was so ashamed with himself that he couldn't even make eye contact with Jay or the audience. And when Leno brought up his mother Kanye's silence said everything that needed to be said. This man has been crying out for help for a while now but he's been trying to overshadow his pain with tours and constantly putting out music. Even in his songs as of late he's been seeming unhappy (just listen to his verses on Run This Town and Forever). Ever since his mom passed he hasn't stopped for a second to give himself sometime to mourn and think about where he goes from here. Outside of his GOOD Music fam, Amber Rose and Jay, Kanye has no family to support him through this really emotional time for him. As a fan and someone who respects him I really hope that he just takes this time to step back from the spot light, give himself some perspective and properly mourn his losses. I don't condone what he did but I also can't stomach all this hate being thrown his way. It seems when someone makes a mistake these days instead of trying to make sure they get some help we just shower them with hate and turn our backs on them. Did we learn anything from the Michael Jackson situation? I really hope Kanye doesn't do anything stupid to himself as a result of this outpouring of hate raining down on him. As humans we are very contradictory creatures. Especially when emotions are involved. We smile to mask pain, We attack to cover up insecurity, We’d rather get caught in a lie a million times rather than face the overwhelming power of the truth once. In matters of the heart things only continue to get more complicated. So many rules, mindsets, preferences, borders, etc just to be happy. To ascend to the infamous Cloud 9. But once we obtain that happiness our humanity kicks in and we find away to sabotage the good. We frantically search for the bad because we’re so used to it that we find some sick security in the fact that it exists. Because let’s face it we wouldn’t be humans without “the bad”. So we’ll push away the light just to run back into the darkness only to repeat the process again and again. And of course we believe that what we’re doing is right, why? Because it’s all we know. We’ve been surrounded by examples and experiences filled with negativity so of course we’re gonna follow that path. Heh…sadly though, once we realize just what it is that we’ve been doing…it’s already too damn late. Once we suddenly have that ill-timed epiphany we start on a never-ending journey to recapture that light that we cast aside for the familiarity of darkness. It’s sad that when we decide to take risks it’s always much later than we should’ve.

Is true love really letting go of something and hoping it falls into the right hands later? Or is true love a much more selfish feeling? Maybe TRUE love is chasing after that one thing even for an eternity until it’s in your hands again. Maybe that love is true because you know in you’re heart that there’s no one on the planet that would do the things you do for that person…

…but then again maybe true love is just letting go…

The thing that makes me love Drake, Cudi and several other new rappers is because they have so much to lose but they decide to be real with their emotions anyway and put themselveso out there in their music. I think alot of artists out there forgot how to do that and this new wave of rappers is bringing the raw emotion back into the game. Check it out. Rock on from Krypton

I promised myself that I'd wait till Sept 11th to cop this but once I heard that it leaked I caved under the pressure of my own anticipation and downloaded it (Sorry Jay!). Did it live up to the hype on the first listen? For me no but that's only because of the epic proportions that I had envisioned for this album so it was almost impossible to live up to them. But upon a second playthrough I fell in love with the album. Like I just said it takes a little getting used to but I think that's just what Jay wanted. He wanted to make us REALLY listen to it and then have it inject into our systems like a drug. Ima go out on a limb and say that I enjoyed this album almost as much as I enjoyed The Black Album and American Gangster (my favorite Jay-Z albums) which will probably get me a lot of flack from people but then again i don't give a fuck lol. Instead of give a straight out review ima go track by track.

1. What We Talkin About feat Luke Steele from Empire of the Sun: 5/5
This is one of the many productions by Kanye on the album and definitely one of my favorite beats on his in recent memory. As soon as the song starts you get attacked by this powerful synth and the trademark Kanye drum kit. Jay-Z talks about how he's not gonna cater to everyone's expectations on this album and just gonna be coming from where he's at mentally throughout the album. Kanye's continuing to grow as a producer and continues to experiment with different sounds and obscure/odd samples to give tracks his signature feel and this is no different. This song serves as an perfect album opener and gets you excited for what the rest of the album has to offer.

2. Thank You: 5/5
This may just be one of my favorite Jay-Z songs ever mostly because of his flow on the track. He attacks this song with the swag and bravado that only he can to show the naysayers that he hasn't lost a step. He kind of gives a nod to Encore in the chorus by saying "Thank you thank you thank you, You're far to kind, Hold your applause, this is your song not mine" almost signifying that he's not going anywhere anytime soon. Jay sounds like the president of the rap game addressing the masses at the inaguration party on this track and Kanye's fun production on the track which consists mostly of loud horns and J Dilla-esque drums makes this song a fun listen. So far so good!

3. D.O.A.: 4.5/5
We've all heard it and there are no changes so I don't think I even need to critique this song lol. I won't lie though I think I overplayed it so I'm a little tired of it. The live band feel of the song is still ill though. I could see him playing this live with the roots.

4. Run This Town feat Rihanna & Kanye: 5/5
Once again another song that everyone's heard so there's no need for me to critique it but I will say that this is one of my faves on the album. A re-occurring theme on the album is Jay-Z's resurgence as the King of the rap game and the album almost feels like a giant campaign. A lot of people have criticized Rihanna on the chorus but I personally think that she's perfect on the track. I think that if someone with a really powerful voice would kind of ruin the somewhat dark and militant feel of the song and Rihanna's voice has a sort of rockstar quality that makes it effective on the chorus. This song also does a good job of highlighting Kanye's lyrical prowess and passion. He's done a really good job this year of silencing anyone who thought that he'd lost his ability to rap once he dropped 808's and Heartbreak. If anything this song makes me really excited to hear his next album.

5. Empire State of Mind feat Alicia Keys: 5/5
This song is another one of my favorite songs on the album and will definitely go on to be one of Jay's classic years down the line. The production is done by someone named Al Shux who I've never heard of but whoever he is he kills this beat. Probably the closest thing we get to the old Jay-Z on the album the beat takes you back to Jay's Blueprint 1 and 2 days. This song is a love letter to his home state New York and how it made him who he is which is something that he's done before on other songs but I believe it's more effective now because he's more experienced and mature now. Alicia Keys (who I'm really glad to hear from) KILLS the chorus on this song and really projects it to anthem status. I know that New York natives will eat this song up because it definitely makes me wish I was from there lol.

6. Real As It Gets feat Young Jeezy: 3.5/5
I think this may be my least favorite song on the album and that's only because it kind feels like it's "just there". In no way is it a bad song but I feel like it would've fit better on Jeezy's album because it sounds like a song made for his style. Nothing really spectacular here but it's also not an earsore so I guess I'm cool with it.

7. On To The Next One feat Swizz Beatz: 5/5
This is my favorite Swizz Beatz production EVER! I think this is most infectious song on the album because I've listened to it more than all of the other songs because of how fun it is to listen to. It's been a long time since I've heard Swizz kill it on the boards and he sure picked a good album to bring the hotness. Taking D.A.N.C.E. by Justice (one of my favorite songs) and doing something really interesting with it to make it sound like a chant, this song is the first club-banger I've heard from Jay in a good while. To some people the sample will probably get annoying if you're just listening to it for leisure but I guarantee you if you hear this shit in the club with some heavy bass you'll go nuts. Jay also enhances the song with some really clever wordplay. It pretty much talks about the same thing that Off That does but in a more slick way. One of my fave tracks from the album.

8. Off That feat Drake: 4/5
One of the 3 Timbo productions on the album and definitely the most upbeat of them. It took me a little while to get into this song I won't lie. Wasn't feeling it on the first listen and then as time went by I started to like it. For some reason Jay's voice annoys me on this a little bit (probably the adlibs) and the fact that Drake is only on the chorus disappoints me because I think he could've really gotten clever on this song. Hopefully they make a remix where Drake spits on it because I think it'd be dope. This is far from the best track on the album but it serves it's purpose. The instrumental gets really dope at the end when Tim starts messing with it a little. Catchy song.

9. A Star Is Born feat J. Cole: 4/5
Another Yeezy production (you can tell because of the echo noise that he uses on a number of songs) and a solid song. On the song Jay gives props to a lot of other artists such as Jeezy, Wayne, T.I. and Em to name a few and talks about how the game will never die because there will always be a star brought into the game to keep it going. Now I'm not sure if J. Cole is on the chorus or not but I know he provides a short verse at the very end of the song which i think was a little misplaced but it was solid. I liked his wordplay and am interested in what he'll bring in the future.

10. Venus vs Mars: 5/5
The second of the 3 Timbo productions and my favorite of the 3. Backed by a dark and somewhat sinister beat by Timbo, Jay tells the story of his relationship with a girl who he believed was his perfect match only to find out they were complete opposites. This song really showcases how clever of a wordsmith Jay-Z really is because there are alot of dope parallel lines in the song. I really like how the song starts off with Jay and his girl being essential one in the same and as the song progresses we start to see the differences show up until by the end they're complete opposites. The "Takeover/Ether" line is one of my favorite lines on the entire album. Even though it probably won't happen, I'd really like to see a video for this song.

11. Already Home feat Kid Cudi: 4/5
Now this is one of those songs that I got disappointed in when I heard it because I was expecting something completely different. I'm used to Kid Cudi's very spacy and eccentric style and whenever Kanye and Cudi hook up (with the exception of Make Her Say) it's always a darker song so I was expecting the same for this one but it's not like that at all. Much like Drake on Off That I wish Cudi or Ye would've gotten a verse on this song because the beat suited their styles (especially Ye's) but Cudi does a good enough job on the chorus to make me ok with it. Kanye's production on this song kind of reminds me of The Glory off of Graduation. I could see this song being the album closer.

12. Hate feat Kanye West: 4.5/5
This is probably the most experimental song on the entire album and I already know that a lot of people aren't gonna like this song but I love it. It's a very risky kind of song. The beat is probably the weirdest beat that I ever remember hearing from Kanye and there for it makes it really easy to not pay attention to what Kanye and Jay are saying. Jay and Kanye trade off verses on this song but it's clear that Kanye feels more at home on the beat because Jay starts to bite his flow a little. It would be in my top 5 songs on the album if it wasn't so damn short! It's my firm believe that you should leave songs that are 2:30 and under for mixtapes because it's too short to truly appreciate on an album for me. I feel like if the song were longer not only would it give people more time to get into the beat but they could've even added another rapper onto the song to get some shine (I'm thinking Big Sean or Lupe could've killed this track). Dope song nonetheless.

13. Reminder: 4.75/5
This is probably the "toughest" song on the album which has Jay addressing rappers who talk down his presence and legacy in the rap game (The Game?, Joe Budden?). I was suprised to hear that this was a Timbo production because it seems kind of Dr. Dre-esque. They don't let you know who's on the chorus but it sounds kind of like Rihanna. Jay's style on this song is reminiscent of "Justify My Thug" off of the Black Album. Definitely a song I could see myself riding down the street too lookin mean lol. I wouldn't be suprised if this was made into a single.

14. So Ambitious feat Pharrell: 4/5
This is another song that I'm a little disappointed with because every collab I've heard from the Neptunes and Jay has been fire and this one is just kind...meh. This is my least favorite Neptunes/Jay-Z collab. It's an okay song but i think it should've been made into a bonus track and replaced with Jockin Jay-Z or something. This probably would've been a better song if it was a lesser artist on the track but I expect better from Jay.

15. Young Forever feat Mr. Hudson: 4/5
I'm still not exactly sure how to feel about this song. I wanna really like it but I can't get past the fact that It sounds like it should be a Mr Hudson song feature Jay-Z. The production has Mr. Hudson's name ALL over it and so I enjoy him singing on the chorus more than Jay's verses. This is one of those songs that I'd probably appreciate more if saw it live in concert than in CDQ. It's an okay album closer but I think they could've done better.

So after going through all 15 tracks on this album I realize that it suffers from something that alot of albums suffer from these days. A strong first half that begins to cool down over time and by the time you get to the end of the album your left wanting a little more. Once again I great enjoy this album and I believe that in time it'll be considered a classic but It'll take some getting used to. It's not up to par with some of Jay's other albums but it's a solid effort and a good showing for Hov. Rock on from Krypton

Em, Yeezy, Drake & Lil Wayne?!

I got a lil math problem for yall, ok what do you get when you put a young rapper with the biggest hype in recent memory on a track with a troubled white rapper with psychotic split personality, an outspoken and controversial rapper/producer and the self proclaimed "best rapper alive"? Record of the year? Catastrophic disaster? Don't know the answer? well listen to the track and find out. I honestly NEVER thought i'd see this line up on a track together but then again that's the same thing i said when Swagger Like Us came out. Everyone with the exception of Wayne (who's seen better days) KILLED this track but ima go ahead and say that Eminem DESTROYED EVERYONE. He introduces a new flow on the track and his delivery is RIDICULOUS, his verse will definitely silence any doubters that didn't exactly appreciate Relapse and gives us a lil taste of what Em is gonna hit us with once Relapse 2 drops. I was looking at this at work and had to post this because it's that damn good. Radiohead is one of my favorite bands and Reckoner is my favorite song of there's. Sometimes on youtube I like to check out covers of my fave songs just see if there are any good ones and Radiohead seldom has good covers so when I saw that Reckoner got covered by Gnarls Barkley (another one of my fave bands) then I jumped on it immediately. Cee-lo's voice is a complete contrast to Thom Yorke's, where Thom's is kinda small and weak, Cee-lo's is big and powerful. Cee-lo brought a different feel to the song giving it more life where as the original version is more cold and stark. I definitely recommend that you check out the cover.

"Cuz you can't bring the future back"

Seems like with the Blueprint 3 Jay-Z is on a quest to destroy all trends and fads in hip-hop (D.O.A.) and state his claim as the king of the rap game (Run This Town). This song does more of the same with him pretty much saying that everything that's cool now, he's already "off that" and that rappers need to get on his level. Like D.O.A. I wasn't really feelin this song on my first listen. Mostly because of the fact that with Drake on the song, and Timbo on the beat i was expecting something EPIC and epic wasn't what I heard. After repeated listens though I grew to really like it. It's definitely far from Jay's lyrical best and Drake is reserved to the chorus but it's still a dope track. Plus Timbo's beat on it is dope (not as good as Dirt Off Your Shoulders though). So far my ranking of the tracks off of BP3 are Run This Town, Off That and then D.O.A. I'm still very excited about this project and definitely looking forward to hearing what Jay has in store (especially looking for the the Yeezy beats and the Neptunes collabo). Rock on from Krypton

Now for those of yall that've been following my blog for a while know that I'm a huge fan of manga/anime (japanese comics and cartoons for those of yall that don't know). And lately I've been hooked on this show called Mongolian Chop Squad Beck. Beck follows a group of friends in high school who start up a band and chronicles their slow rise to superstardom. What I love so much about this anime is that it's a legit band story. You see rehersals, music videos and live concerts perfomed by them and the music is damn good. The best way for me to describe the band's style is like Nirvana mixed with Rage Against the Machine. I haven't finished it yet but from what I've seen so far it's already become one of my favorite animes of all time. You should definitely check it out if your an anime fan or a fan of rock music. "Life's a game but it's not fair/I break the rules cuz I don't care"

This is officially knocked Welcome to Heartbreak out of the top spot as my favorite video of 2009. There's so many things that I like about the video that I'm just not gonna waste my breath and I'm just gonna tell you to watch it asap. No one could've done this better than these 3. Blueprint 3 in stores Sept 11, go check out the official tracklist if you haven't already, looks mighty impressive. Rock on from Krypton.
